History of the Department:

The Department of Political Science as one of the integral parts of Swahid Peoli Phukan College, Namti was established on 1^st July, 1970 under the initiative of a few visionary post-graduates for disseminating and inculcating knowledge on Political Science among the students of Namti area. Although the number of students were very few at the beginning, the department has been able to gradually grow to the present stage due to hard work of its faculty members. With the passage of time, the department has been playing a dynamic role in making students aware of novel thoughts and ideas on concern subject domain. Consequently, the department has been able to produce a good number of graduates in political science and many of them are extending valuable service to the society at large. 

Vision and Mission:

Since its establishment, the Department of Political Science has a noble vision of disseminating knowledge on Political Science. The department endeavours to promote civic sense, scientific temperament and social and national responsibility among the students through formal education in Political Science. Apart from these, the department aims at developing capacity of critical inquiry, critical thinking and logical standing of contemporary national and global political issues. Moreover, the department aims at building capacity of leadership competency, self-dependent and good quality of national and global citizenship among the students. The Department of Political Science undertakes following missions to accomplish afore cited vision:

1. Creating congenial academic environment in the Department so as to set a new benchmark in higher education.
2. Undertakes innovative initiatives for pursuing academic excellence in teaching, research and extension activities.
3. Organizes seminar, counseling, viva voce, debate and other innovative teaching learning methods to develop new knowledge in the field through critical research and scholastic inquiry. 
4. Arranges remedial classes for students who can hardly cop with general learning process along with their fellow learners.
5. Imparts education through various formal and informal training in order to equip students with changing pace of time and develop analytical perspectives among them. 
6. Arranges educational tour, publishes mouthpiece, wall magazines and pamphlets and organizes students’ parliaments so as to develop creative and leadership capacity among the students.    
7. Encourages the students in acquiring of innovative and novel ideas and thoughts on contemporary issues through inter-disciplinary approaches.  
8. Undertakes awareness activities for promoting and inculcating democratic and egalitarian norms and values among the students.

4. Common computer lab connected with internet facility for teachers and students.
5. Common canteen facility.
