History of the Department:
The Department of Political Science as one of the integral parts of Swahid Peoli Phukan College, Namti was established on 1st July, 1970 under the initiative of a few visionary post-graduates for disseminating and inculcating knowledge on Political Science among the students of Namti area. Although the number of students were very few at the beginning, the department has been able to gradually grow to the present stage due to hard work of its faculty members. With the passage of time, the department has been playing a dynamic role in making students aware of novel thoughts and ideas on concern subject domain. Consequently, the department has been able to produce a good number of graduates in political science and many of them are extending valuable service to the society at large.
Vision and Mission:
Since its establishment, the Department of Political Science has a noble vision of disseminating knowledge on Political Science. The department endeavours to promote civic sense, scientific temperament and social and national responsibility among the students through formal education in Political Science. Apart from these, the department aims at developing capacity of critical inquiry, critical thinking and logical standing of contemporary national and global political issues. Moreover, the department aims at building capacity of leadership competency, self-dependent and good quality of national and global citizenship among the students.
